Sustainable Eco Wellness Tourism Package – Ban Tha Wat
Lao Po Daeng Subdistrict, Sakon Nakhon Province
Ban Tha Wat is a 3,000-year-old ancient community located along the shore of Nong Han Lake. It developed alongside the culture of the ancient Ban Chiang civilization. The community is believed to have been the original site of the ancient city known as Chiang Mai Nong Han Kham Khet, as referenced in sandstone inscriptions discovered in the area.
These ancient inscriptions describe the area as a sacred land and a royal sanctuary. Ban Tha Wat represents the overlap of four historical periods: the Ban Chiang culture, the Sri Kotrabun Kingdom, the Khmer civilization, and the Lan Xang Kingdom. This demonstrates continuous settlement from prehistoric times to the present day.
The charm of this community lies in its traditional lakeside lifestyle, beautiful scenery overlooking Nong Han Lake, and panoramic views of the Phu Phan mountain range shaped like a crescent moon. The area is rich in natural food resources and contains large underground rock salt deposits that have supported salt production since ancient times. Most importantly, the community preserves ancient spiritual wisdom that has contributed to the well-being of people living along the lake for generations.

What Tourists Will Learn
Blue Mindfulness
Blue Mindfulness is a mindfulness practice connected with the waters of Nong Han Lake. Visitors participating in Blue Mindfulness activities will experience a unique form of happiness known as non-material happiness. Unlike happiness derived from beautiful sights, delicious food, pleasant aromas, enjoyable sounds, or physical pleasures, this form of happiness arises from inner peace and freedom from sensory distractions. This happiness can be found within ourselves simply by maintaining awareness of the present moment. Different environments offer different forms of tranquility. The serenity of the sea differs from that of the mountains, and the peacefulness of a mountain is different from that of a lake. This journey provides an opportunity to experience the unique tranquility of Nong Han Lake. The peaceful natural surroundings and contemplative atmosphere help participants access deeper states of mindfulness and lasting happiness. When this inner happiness arises, it contributes to both personal well-being and a more sustainable, peaceful world.
